National Rainbow Day - 22nd August 2026

National Rainbow Baby Day is a day of recognition, remembrance, and hope. For many, it is a meaningful moment to honour the babies who are no longer here and the children born after loss. For others, it is a day that brings complex, painful, or conflicting emotions. As an organisation dedicated to supporting families through pregnancy and baby loss, we acknowledge the full spectrum of experiences that this day can evoke.

Today, we honour every person who has endured the life‑altering grief of losing a baby, child, or pregnancy. Loss in any form reshapes futures, identities, and relationships, and its impact is carried long beyond the moment it occurs.

For those holding babies born after loss, we recognise the profound joy and relief that coexist with the memories of what came before. Many parents describe pregnancy after loss as an experience marked by heightened fear, uncertainty, and scanxiety — the intense anticipatory anxiety surrounding scans, appointments, and milestones. This emotional landscape is real, valid, and deserving of compassion.

For those currently pregnant after loss, we acknowledge the courage it takes to move through each day. Pregnancy after loss is not simply a new chapter; it is a continuation of love shaped by trauma, hope, and the enduring presence of the baby who died. The heartache of carrying both grief and anticipation is a reality many parents quietly navigate.

For those trying to conceive again, or for those who feel unable to try due to fear or emotional exhaustion, we recognise the weight you carry. The longing, the hesitation, and the daily emotional labour are deeply understood within our community.

For those whose arms remain empty, or who are navigating infertility, we honour your grief, your resilience, and the strength it takes to continue forward in a world that may not always see or understand your pain.

We also hold space for those who do not identify with the term rainbow baby. For many, their loss was not a “storm” but a beloved child whose significance stands independently. There is no single narrative, no universal metaphor, and no prescribed way to heal. Grief and hope can exist side by side, but they do so differently for every individual.

However you feel today — whether you are celebrating, grieving, remembering, waiting, or experiencing all of these at once — your emotions are valid.

Your story matters.

You are held with respect, compassion, and care.

At Handmade with Love & Making Memories we stand with you today and every day.
