Timothy Ryder Stott

To our Admin Charley,

Your path has been one of immense strength, love, and heartbreak. It began with an unexpected battle against sepsis, setting the stage for a journey that would forever shape your life. Months later, amidst medical challenges and uncertainty, you received news that changed everything—you were expecting.

From that moment on, every step forward was met with hurdles. Appointments brought concern, tests revealed complications, and your fierce determination to advocate for yourself and your baby became all the more vital. As the weeks passed, your health deteriorated, culminating in a moment of crisis that led to an emergency transfer, a medically induced coma, and the heartbreaking loss of your son, Timothy.

Yet even in the face of overwhelming grief, you found the strength to hold space for him to create memories, to offer love in the short time you had, and to say goodbye in a way only a mother can. His name, his existence, and his impact are woven into everything you’ve built since, a legacy that lives on through the volunteer work and in the lives of families you’ve touched.

We see the love, the fight, and the unwavering spirit in your story. Timothy mattered. He was still born, but he was still born. 💙 Love from all the Team.

Charley's journey

To tell my story I have to go back to July 2017. I was admitted to hospital with sepsis caused by a kidney stone that blocked my kidney. Now we can fast forward to April 22nd I attend a medical appointment for my weight loss follow up. He wants an MRI but asks about my periods. I tell him haven't had one since July when I had sepsis. He orders a test and says he will let me know the results. While I'm travelling back from Liverpool I get a phone and tell me that I'm expecting. Attended the hospital 2 days later due to all my problems they wanted to see me asap. Was taken to EPE (Early Pregnancy Unit) as they had no ultrasound places. They scanned me said I was around 22+ weeks and needed a full ultrasound asap.

They did the usual tests showed I had the start of a UTI but when I pushed them telling them that trimethoprim wasn't strong enough they said we will wait until your next appointment you don't have any notes yet. By my next appointment almost 2 weeks later my test showed nothing (sadly my kidney was already blocked). I was told I was 24+5 and they would discuss options for early delivery as all my earth bound were delivered early for various reasons. On the 2nd of may I took the children to school as normal. Dropped them all off and went to get in my friends car as I did I realised I was in a hell of a lot of pain and I was starting to feel really unwell. I get home and almost pass out at this point I ring my gp it's only 9.30 they tell me someone will ring me back. At about 1pm gp rings I explain my symptoms he can see on my notes I've had sepsis before says I can go gp and they can refer me to the hospital or I can ring an ambulance under threat to life. The ambulance arrives after about an hour they take me to labour and delivery as I'm 25+3. They can tell I'm ill so they start pushing antibiotics and order an ultrasound for the following morning. I go for the ultrasound all is well with my little boy as I'm moved back to the bed something happens. As I'm led on the bed I start shaking uncontrollably I cant breath the pain is excruciating. The dr is talking to the one midwife in the room then suddenly the emergency button his hit and I'm dropped flat on the bed. I hear them shouting I need to get to theatre now do I consent as no time for written consent. I remember nothing other than telling them to deliver the baby give him a chance and being told no need to wait 3 more days and them telling me my problems are more serious than they realised and I need to be placed in a coma. I agree but tell them to save him. This is information given to me afterwards I'm then placed in a coma and a ambulance called to transfer me to another hospital. The crew that arrive say I'm to ill for them to move me I need a grade 1 ambulance due to all the machines and medical personnel needed to transport me safely. My baby died on 4th may 2018 due to maternal sepsis I had stage 4 septic shock. My son was born sleeping at 7.13pm at 25+5 weeks I was brought out of my coma on Saturday but had to be sedated again and Sunday I woke up to my family around me with sad faces and the nurses asking me if I knew what had happened and told me my son had died and had been born on the Friday evening. I was moved to a ward the following day overnight then transferred back to the other hospital. I was sent back to labour and delivery to the furthest corner of the ward so the noises were minimal until I was able to walk then I was moved to the bereavement suite where I sent the few days I had left with Timothy making memories. We said our final goodbye to him the Thursday I was then released from hospital the Friday evening. We told our other children about Timothy 5 days before his funeral (we hadn't told anyone I was pregnant before we lost him we were just getting used to the news ourselves) we said our final goodbyes on May 23rd.
