Ten years ago I met a beautiful, brave, courageous Baby Loss Mum who shared her journey publicly for the first time about losing her precious daughter in neonatal, and her 4 little ones early during pregnancy. She never received a box or keepsake in memory of her babies. We talked non stop over the years about creating a special box for the Islamic faith community. Over the years we created keepsake packs and some special keepsakes to hand out, Then, in 2022 I delivered my nephew at 17 weeks & 1 day who was born sleeping, and there was still no support or special faith memorial keepsakes for parents.
Luckily, I knew that the Ibraham's Gift pack was available (Baby's 24 weeks or over), and I had to ask a midwife for a pack for Marie and Yasir. Who may I add was unsure of what it actually was. It still baffles me how many of our healthcare professionals are still none the wiser on what is and what is not available for babies born sleeping. There is such a lack of training within this field. I was aware of their location due to the fact I had delivered special cribs to the hospital that day. Delivering my tiny nephew, Baby Chaudhary and holding his perfect little body in my arm's, hit me hard, and yet motivated me to focus whole heartedly on the project. Back and forwards to Rahina I would go and asking questions, and sharing information. We contacted the Women's Muslim Centre in Glasgow for advice and guidance, and I am yet too, but will be accepting the kind offer of going and visiting them. It is something I plan to do in the summer and take some of the making memory boxes with me.
These beautiful making memory boxes will be going out to The Royal Oldham Early Pregnancy Unit, which is ran by the Senior Bereavement Lead Nurse, Laura Howarth. It is a pleasure to work alongside Laura, as like us she is keen to remove inequalities within baby and pregnancy loss. Offering all bereaved parents the opportunity to say goodbye. If you would like to sponsor a box in memory of a loved on please drop us a message to support@handmadewithlove.net and we can send you further information. It certainly does take a community to make a difference, and I hope together we are starting to treat all bereaved parents equally. I still think we have a long way to go with training, and providing what the families require in line with their faith.
